The power and energy subsystem is of primary importance in GIM machines. Research will be focused on ways to generate power for all the functions of the mobile machine. Power will be distributed to the modules of the machine from the power generation module. The following prime mover power sources will be considered: diesel engines, electric motors, fuel cells, and hybrid solutions.

High autonomy requirements influence the choice of energy source, as well as the application area of the machine. The prime mover power will be converted into the energy form which is used in working actuators. Among these energy forms are hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical energy. Research into the ways in which power can be transmitted, distributed, and controlled is of the utmost importance in connecting the modules of generic, intelligent, and modular machines with each other.
